CVE-2026-92262·MariaDB vulnerability
MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. From 10.6.1 until 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2, the #mysql50# bypass prefix is affected because it allows the #mysql50# prefix to bypass normal table-name filesystem encoding. An attacker can trigger the issue with a table name using the #mysql50# prefix, then use a #mysql50# table name to access files under their legacy unencoded name and cause crashes, data corruption, data exfiltration, or remote code execution. This issue is fixed in versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.

How likely is exploitation
FIRST's Exploit Prediction Scoring System puts the probability of this CVE being exploited in the next 30 days at 0.68% — higher than 51% of all published CVEs. EPSS is an independent forecast of exploitation, not a severity rating: it says nothing about how much damage a successful attack does, which is what a CVSS score measures.
Read the two together. CVE-2026-92262 scores 9.9 on CVSS, so a successful attack would be serious — but at 0.68%, almost nobody is currently attempting it. That is a different situation from a flaw under mass exploitation, and it is usually the difference between patching on your next maintenance window and patching tonight.

How to fix this CVE
MariaDB versions prior to 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2 are vulnerable to a table-name encoding bypass attack via the #mysql50# prefix that can lead to file access, data corruption, and remote code execution. Immediately update MariaDB to version 11.8.9+ds-1 or later to patch this critical vulnerability. After upgrading, restart the MariaDB service and validate that legacy #mysql50# prefixed tables are properly encoded.
sudo dnf update mariadb-serverDefensia detects this vulnerability
How to check if you are affected
- Step 1: Check installed MariaDB version with: mysql --version or mariadb --version
- Step 2: Query the MariaDB instance for any tables using the #mysql50# prefix: SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM information_schema.TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME LIKE '%#mysql50#%';
- Step 3: Search MariaDB error logs for table access anomalies or crashes: grep -i '#mysql50#' /var/log/mysql/error.log or journalctl -u mariadb | grep -i error
- Step 4: Verify the patch was applied by confirming the version matches 11.8.9+ds-1 or later: mariadb --version | grep -E '(10\.6\.28|10\.11\.19|11\.4\.13|11\.8\.9|12\.3\.3|13\.0\.2)'
FAQ
What is CVE-2026-92262?
CVE-2026-92262 is a critical bypass vulnerability in MariaDB that exploits the #mysql50# compatibility prefix to circumvent filename encoding restrictions, allowing attackers to access unencoded table files and execute arbitrary operations including remote code execution.
Is CVE-2026-92262 being actively exploited?
No, CVE-2026-92262 is not listed in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog and no public exploits are currently available, though the critical severity warrants immediate patching as proof-of-concept code may emerge.
What versions of MariaDB are affected by CVE-2026-92262?
Vulnerable versions include 10.6.1 through 10.6.27, 10.11.0 through 10.11.18, 11.4.0 through 11.4.12, 11.8.0 through 11.8.8, 12.3.0 through 12.3.2, and 13.0.0 through 13.0.1. All versions are fixed in 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2 respectively.
How do I check if my server is vulnerable to CVE-2026-92262?
Run 'mariadb --version' and compare the output against the affected version ranges. If your version falls between any of the vulnerable ranges (e.g., 11.8.0-11.8.8), your server is vulnerable and requires immediate upgrade.
Does Defensia detect CVE-2026-92262?
Yes — Defensia's CVE advisory scanner compares installed package versions against the NVD database. If MariaDB is installed on a monitored server, CVE-2026-92262 will appear in your dashboard with remediation steps.
