CVE-2026-53151·Kernel vulnerability

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rxrpc: Fix the ACK parser to extract the SACK table for parsing Fix modification of the received skbuff in rxrpc_input_soft_acks() and a potential incorrect access of the buffer in a fragmented UDP packet (the packet would probably have to be deliberately pre-generated as fragmented) when AF_RXRPC tries to extract the contents of the SACK table by copying out the contents of the SACK table into a buffer before attempting to parse AF_RXRPC assumes that it can just call skb_condense() and then validly access the SACK table from skb->data and that it will be a flat buffer - but skb_condense() can silently fail to do anything under some circumstances. Note that whilst rxrpc_input_soft_acks() should be able to parse extended ACKs, the rest of AF_RXRPC doesn't currently support that. Further, there's then no need to call skb_condense() in rxrpc_input_ack(), so don't.

How likely is exploitation

FIRST's Exploit Prediction Scoring System puts the probability of this CVE being exploited in the next 30 days at 0.67% — higher than 51% of all published CVEs. EPSS is an independent forecast of exploitation, not a severity rating: it says nothing about how much damage a successful attack does, which is what a CVSS score measures.

Read the two together. CVE-2026-53151 scores 9.8 on CVSS, so a successful attack would be serious — but at 0.67%, almost nobody is currently attempting it. That is a different situation from a flaw under mass exploitation, and it is usually the difference between patching on your next maintenance window and patching tonight.

How to fix this CVE

Update your Linux kernel to version 7.0.13 or later to address a critical flaw in the rxrpc ACK parser that can lead to memory corruption and privilege escalation. The vulnerability occurs when the kernel fails to properly validate and extract the SACK table from fragmented UDP packets, allowing potential buffer overflows. Ensure your system is fully patched through your distribution's package manager before deploying to production environments.

sudo dnf update kernel kernel-devel

How to check if you are affected

  1. Check current kernel version: uname -r — confirm it is below 7.0.13
  2. List rxrpc module status: lsmod | grep rxrpc — verify if AF_RXRPC is in use
  3. Inspect kernel module parameters: cat /sys/module/rxrpc/parameters/* — document current rxrpc configuration
  4. Verify patch application: grep -i 'rxrpc_input_soft_acks\|skb_condense' /boot/config-$(uname -r) — confirm fix is present in kernel configuration
  5. Check kernel log for rxrpc errors: journalctl -k | grep -i rxrpc — look for any soft ACK parsing failures

FAQ

What is CVE-2026-53151?

This is a critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel's rxrpc (AF_RXRPC) network protocol handler that allows improper memory access when parsing selective acknowledgment (SACK) tables from UDP packets. Attackers can craft malicious fragmented packets to trigger buffer overflows and gain elevated privileges.

Is CVE-2026-53151 being actively exploited?

No, there are currently no reports of active exploitation or publicly available exploits for this vulnerability, though the critical CVSS score of 9.8 warrants immediate patching.

What versions of Kernel are affected by CVE-2026-53151?

Linux kernel versions 6.19 through 7.0.12 are vulnerable; kernel 7.0.13 and later contain the fix.

How do I check if my server is vulnerable to CVE-2026-53151?

Run 'uname -r' to check your kernel version; if it is between 6.19 and 7.0.12, your system is vulnerable. Additionally, verify AF_RXRPC usage with 'lsmod | grep rxrpc' to determine if the affected code path is active.

Does Defensia detect CVE-2026-53151?

CVE-2026-63795CVSS 10In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: 9p: avoid putting oldfid in p9_client_walk() error path When p9_client_walk() is called with clone set to false, fid aliases oldfid. If the walk subsequently fails after the request has been sent, the error path jumps to clunk_fid, which currently calls p9_fid_put(fid) unconditionally. This drops a reference to oldfid even though ownership of oldfid remains with the caller. If this is the last reference, oldfid can be clunked and destroyed while the caller still expects it to be valid. A later use or put of oldfid can then trigger a use-after-free or refcount underflow. Fix this by only putting fid in the clunk_fid error path when it does not alias oldfid, matching the existing guard in the error path below. This can be triggered when a multi-component walk is split into multiple p9_client_walk() calls and a later non-cloning walk fails. A reproducer and refcount warning logs are available on request.
CVE-2026-52955CVSS 9.8In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: libceph: Fix potential out-of-bounds access in crush_decode() A message of type CEPH_MSG_OSD_MAP containing a crush map with at least one bucket has two fields holding the bucket algorithm. If the values in these two fields differ, an out-of-bounds access can occur. This is the case because the first algorithm field (alg) is used to allocate the correct amount of memory for a bucket of this type, while the second algorithm field inside the bucket (b->alg) is used in the subsequent processing. This patch fixes the issue by adding a check that compares alg and b->alg and aborts the processing in case they differ. Furthermore, b->alg is set to 0 in this case, because the destruction of the crush map also uses this field to determine the bucket type, which can again result in an out-of-bounds access when trying to free the memory pointed to by the fields of the bucket. To correctly free the memory allocated for the bucket in such a case, the corresponding call to kfree is moved from the algorithm-specific crush_destroy_bucket functions to the generic crush_destroy_bucket().
CVE-2026-53246CVSS 9.8In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: validate cached peer INIT chunk length in COOKIE_ECHO processing When a listening SCTP server processes a COOKIE_ECHO chunk, the cached peer INIT chunk embedded after the cookie is parsed and its parameters are later walked by sctp_process_init() using sctp_walk_params(). However, the chunk header length of this cached INIT chunk was not validated against the remaining buffer in the COOKIE_ECHO payload. If the length field is inflated, the parameter walk can run beyond the actual received data, leading to out-of-bounds reads and potential memory corruption during later parameter handling (e.g. STATE_COOKIE processing and kmemdup() copies). Add a bounds check in sctp_unpack_cookie() to ensure the cached INIT chunk length does not exceed the available data in the COOKIE_ECHO buffer before it is used.
CVE-2026-53260CVSS 9.8In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tcp: Add preempt_{disable,enable}_nested() in reqsk_queue_hash_req(). syzbot reported a weird reqsk->rsk_refcnt underflow in __inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop(). The captured reqsk_put() in __inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() is called only when it successfully removes reqsk from ehash. Moreover, reqsk_timer_handler() calls another reqsk_put() after that. This indicates that the reqsk was missing both refcnts for ehash and the timer itself. Since all the syzbot reports had PREEMPT_RT enabled, the only possible scenario is that reqsk_queue_hash_req() is preempted after mod_timer() and before refcount_set(), and then the timer triggered after 1s aborts the reqsk due to its listener's close(). Let's wrap mod_timer() and refcount_set() with preempt_disable_nested() and preempt_enable_nested(). Note that inet_ehash_insert() holds the normal spin_lock() (mutex in PREEMPT_RT), so it must be called outside of preempt_disable_nested(), but this is fine. The lookup path just ignores 0 sk_refcnt entries in ehash and tries to create another reqsk, but this will fail at inet_ehash_insert(). [0]: refcount_t: underflow; use-after-free.
