CVE-2024-26914·Kernel vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: fix incorrect mpc_combine array size [why] MAX_SURFACES is per stream, while MAX_PLANES is per asic. The mpc_combine is an array that records all the planes per asic. Therefore MAX_PLANES should be used as the array size. Using MAX_SURFACES causes array overflow when there are more than 3 planes. [how] Use the MAX_PLANES for the mpc_combine array size.

How to fix this CVE
Update your Linux kernel to version 6.7.6 or later to resolve a memory array sizing issue in the AMD display driver that could lead to buffer overflow. This vulnerability affects systems running kernel versions 6.7 through 6.7.6 and requires immediate kernel patching followed by a system reboot to take effect.
sudo dnf update kernel kernel-develDefensia detects this vulnerability
How to check if you are affected
- Run `uname -r` to check the currently running kernel version and verify if it falls between 6.7 and 6.7.6
- Verify if AMD display driver (drm/amd/display) is in use by checking `lspci | grep -i amd` and confirming AMD GPU presence
- Search kernel logs with `sudo dmesg | grep -i 'mpc_combine\|array\|overflow'` to identify any memory-related errors from the display driver
- After patching, run `uname -r` again to confirm the kernel version is now 6.7.6 or higher, then verify dmesg shows no new display driver errors
FAQ
What is CVE-2024-26914?
This vulnerability involves an incorrect array size declaration in the AMD display driver's MPC combine structure within the Linux kernel. The array was sized using MAX_SURFACES instead of MAX_PLANES, causing potential buffer overflow when systems with more than three graphics planes attempt to render content.
Is CVE-2024-26914 being actively exploited?
No, there is no evidence of active exploitation or public exploits available for CVE-2024-26914. It is not listed in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog.
What versions of Kernel are affected by CVE-2024-26914?
Linux kernel versions 6.7 through 6.7.6 are affected. The vulnerability was fixed in kernel version 6.7.6 and later.
How do I check if my server is vulnerable to CVE-2024-26914?
Run `uname -r` to check your kernel version. If the output shows a version between 6.7 and 6.7.5 inclusive, your system is vulnerable. Systems with 6.7.6 or higher are patched.
Does Defensia detect CVE-2024-26914?
Yes — Defensia's CVE advisory scanner compares installed package versions against the NVD database. If the Linux kernel is installed on a monitored server, CVE-2024-26914 will appear in your dashboard with remediation steps.
