CVE-2024-10519·PHP vulnerability
The Wishlist for WooCommerce: Multi Wishlists Per Customer PRO plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the 'wtab' parameter in versions 3.0.8 to 3.1.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking on a link. Note: Only WordPress installations with versions of PHP <=7.4 are affected by this vulnerability.

How likely is exploitation
FIRST's Exploit Prediction Scoring System puts the probability of this CVE being exploited in the next 30 days at 0.49% — higher than 39% of all published CVEs. EPSS is an independent forecast of exploitation, not a severity rating: it says nothing about how much damage a successful attack does, which is what a CVSS score measures.

How to fix this CVE
Update the Wishlist for WooCommerce plugin to version 3.1.3 or later, which includes proper input sanitization and output escaping for the 'wtab' parameter. If you are running PHP 7.4 or earlier on WordPress, prioritize this update immediately as older PHP versions are specifically vulnerable to this reflected XSS flaw. Verify the update was successful by checking the plugin version in your WordPress admin dashboard.
sudo dnf update phpDefensia detects this vulnerability
What an exploitation attempt looks like
Sample log line indicative of exploitation attempts:
GET.*wtab=.*(%3C|%3E|<|>|script|javascript|onerror|onload)WAF mitigation (if patching is not yet possible)
Add this rule to your WAF to block exploitation attempts while you schedule the patch.
Block or sanitize any request where the 'wtab' parameter contains HTML/JavaScript metacharacters (<, >, quotes, 'script', 'onerror', 'onload', etc.) or URL-encoded equivalents. Implement a WAF rule to enforce strict alphanumeric validation on the 'wtab' parameter only permitting expected tab identifiers. How to check if you are affected
- Step 1: Check installed PHP version with `php -v` and note if it is version 7.4 or earlier
- Step 2: Log into WordPress admin, navigate to Plugins > Installed Plugins, and search for 'Wishlist for WooCommerce' to verify the current installed version
- Step 3: Search web server access logs (typically /var/log/apache2/access.log or /var/log/nginx/access.log) for requests containing 'wtab=' with URL-encoded special characters like '%3C', '%3E', or 'script'
- Step 4: After updating, re-check the plugin version in WordPress admin to confirm version 3.1.3 or higher is installed
