CVE-2024-50030·Kernel vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/ct: prevent UAF in send_recv() Ensure we serialize with completion side to prevent UAF with fence going out of scope on the stack, since we have no clue if it will fire after the timeout before we can erase from the xa. Also we have some dependent loads and stores for which we need the correct ordering, and we lack the needed barriers. Fix this by grabbing the ct->lock after the wait, which is also held by the completion side. v2 (Badal): - Also print done after acquiring the lock and seeing timeout. How likely is exploitation
FIRST's Exploit Prediction Scoring System puts the probability of this CVE being exploited in the next 30 days at <0.1% — higher than 2% of all published CVEs. EPSS is an independent forecast of exploitation, not a severity rating: it says nothing about how much damage a successful attack does, which is what a CVSS score measures.
Read the two together. CVE-2024-50030 scores 7.8 on CVSS, so a successful attack would be serious — but at <0.1%, almost nobody is currently attempting it. That is a different situation from a flaw under mass exploitation, and it is usually the difference between patching on your next maintenance window and patching tonight.

How to fix this CVE
Update your Linux kernel to version 6.11.4 or later to resolve a use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the DRM/Xe display driver's command transport layer. This vulnerability could allow a local privileged user to trigger memory corruption and crash the system. Apply the kernel update immediately through your distribution's package manager and reboot your system.
sudo dnf update kernel kernel-devel && sudo rebootDefensia detects this vulnerability
How to check if you are affected
- Check installed kernel version: uname -r (vulnerable if between 6.8 and 6.11.3)
- Verify DRM/Xe driver presence: lspci | grep -i display or lsmod | grep xe
- Search kernel logs for UAF-related crashes: grep -i 'use.after.free\|UAF\|fence' /var/log/kern.log or journalctl -k | grep -i 'fence\|timeout'
- Confirm patch applied by checking kernel source: cat /proc/version and verify version is 6.11.4 or later
FAQ
What is CVE-2024-50030?
This is a use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's DRM/Xe display driver command transport layer. A missing synchronization barrier allows a fence object on the stack to go out of scope while a completion handler may still access it, potentially causing memory corruption when the fence is freed before the completion fires.
Is CVE-2024-50030 being actively exploited?
No, this vulnerability is not currently being actively exploited in the wild and no public exploits are available. However, it is a kernel-level bug that requires local access and elevated privileges to trigger.
What versions of Kernel are affected by CVE-2024-50030?
Linux kernel versions 6.8 through 6.11.3 are vulnerable. The vulnerability has been fixed in kernel 6.11.4 and later.
How do I check if my server is vulnerable to CVE-2024-50030?
Run 'uname -r' to display your kernel version. If it shows a version between 6.8 and 6.11.3, you are vulnerable. You can also check 'cat /proc/version' for the full kernel build details.
Does Defensia detect CVE-2024-50030?
Yes — Defensia's CVE advisory scanner compares installed package versions against the NVD database. If the Linux kernel is installed on a monitored server, CVE-2024-50030 will appear in your dashboard with remediation steps.
