CVE-2021-47314·Kernel vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: memory: fsl_ifc: fix leak of private memory on probe failure On probe error the driver should free the memory allocated for private structure. Fix this by using resource-managed allocation.

How likely is exploitation
FIRST's Exploit Prediction Scoring System puts the probability of this CVE being exploited in the next 30 days at <0.1% — in the bottom 1% of all published CVEs. EPSS is an independent forecast of exploitation, not a severity rating: it says nothing about how much damage a successful attack does, which is what a CVSS score measures.

How to fix this CVE
Update your Linux kernel to version 5.13.4 or later to address a memory leak in the FSL IFC driver that occurs during probe failures. This vulnerability can lead to denial of service through memory exhaustion if the driver fails to initialize properly. Apply the patch using your distribution's package manager to ensure the resource-managed memory allocation fix is in place.
sudo dnf update kernel kernel-develDefensia detects this vulnerability
How to check if you are affected
- Run 'uname -r' to verify your current kernel version and confirm if it falls within the 5.13.0-5.13.3 range
- Check if FSL IFC driver is loaded by running 'lsmod | grep ifc' or 'grep -i ifc /proc/modules' to determine exposure
- Review kernel logs for probe failures related to fsl_ifc driver: 'sudo dmesg | grep -i "fsl_ifc\|probe\|failed" | tail -20'
- Verify the fix is applied by confirming kernel version is 5.13.4 or later with 'uname -r' and cross-reference against your distro's kernel package version using 'apt show linux-image-generic' (Ubuntu/Debian) or 'dnf info kernel' (RHEL/CentOS)
FAQ
What is CVE-2021-47314?
CVE-2021-47314 is a memory leak vulnerability in the Linux kernel's FSL IFC (Freescale Integrated Flash Controller) driver where improperly allocated private memory is not freed when the driver probe operation fails, potentially leading to denial of service.
Is CVE-2021-47314 being actively exploited?
No, CVE-2021-47314 is not listed in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog and has no known public exploits available.
What versions of Kernel are affected by CVE-2021-47314?
Kernel versions 5.13.0 through 5.13.3 are affected; the vulnerability was resolved in kernel 5.13.4 and later.
How do I check if my server is vulnerable to CVE-2021-47314?
Run 'uname -r' to check your kernel version; if it displays 5.13.0 through 5.13.3, your system is vulnerable. Additionally, verify if the FSL IFC driver is in use by running 'lsmod | grep ifc'.
Does Defensia detect CVE-2021-47314?
Yes — Defensia's CVE advisory scanner compares installed package versions against the NVD database. If Kernel is installed on a monitored server, CVE-2021-47314 will appear in your dashboard with remediation steps.
