CVE-2026-59214·Python vulnerability
Open WebUI is an extensible, feature-rich, and user-friendly self-hosted AI platform. Prior to 0.10.0, Open WebUI runs client-side Python with Pyodide in a same-origin web worker, allowing stored chat payloads that use pyodide.http.pyfetch or the js module fetch and XMLHttpRequest APIs to issue authenticated same-origin requests when a victim clicks Run, which can reach admin-only endpoints and execute server-side code through configured tools. This issue is fixed in version 0.10.0.

How to fix this CVE
Upgrade Open WebUI to version 0.10.0 or later to eliminate the risk of authenticated same-origin request abuse through client-side Python execution. This vulnerability affects instances where users can execute Python code via the web interface; ensure all deployments are patched before allowing untrusted users to interact with the chat and code execution features. Apply security updates immediately and restart the Open WebUI service to ensure the fix takes effect.

WAF mitigation (if patching is not yet possible)
Add this rule to your WAF to block exploitation attempts while you schedule the patch.
Implement WAF rules to block requests to admin-only endpoints (/api/admin/*) that originate from unusual User-Agent patterns associated with Pyodide (look for 'Pyodide' in headers) or from authenticated sessions making rapid API calls without prior navigation. Additionally, restrict cross-origin requests and enforce strict Content-Security-Policy headers to disable inline script execution. How to check if you are affected
- Step 1: Check the Open WebUI version by running curl http://localhost:3000/api/version or inspect the package.json in the Open WebUI installation directory (grep '"version"' package.json)
- Step 2: Verify if Pyodide is enabled in the Open WebUI configuration by checking the settings file or admin panel for Python execution/LLM tool enablement
- Step 3: Search application logs for unauthorized admin endpoint access patterns: grep -i 'admin.*pyodide\|pyfetch\|XMLHttpRequest' /var/log/open-webui/*.log or similar application log paths
- Step 4: Confirm the patch by running curl http://localhost:3000/api/version again and verifying the version is >= 0.10.0
FAQ
What is CVE-2026-59214?
CVE-2026-59214 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in Open WebUI that allows an attacker to abuse client-side Python execution through Pyodide to make authenticated requests to restricted admin endpoints, potentially leading to unauthorized access and code execution on the server.
Is CVE-2026-59214 being actively exploited?
No, CVE-2026-59214 is not currently listed on the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog and no public exploits are available, though the vulnerability requires user interaction (clicking Run) to trigger.
What versions of Open WebUI are affected by CVE-2026-59214?
All versions of Open WebUI prior to 0.10.0 are vulnerable. Version 0.10.0 and later have the vulnerability patched.
How do I check if my server is vulnerable to CVE-2026-59214?
Run curl http://localhost:3000/api/version to retrieve your Open WebUI version number. If the version is below 0.10.0, your instance is vulnerable.
Does Defensia detect CVE-2026-59214?
Yes — Defensia's CVE advisory scanner compares installed package versions against the NVD database. If Open WebUI is installed on a monitored server, CVE-2026-59214 will appear in your dashboard with remediation steps.
