CVE-2026-22206·PHP vulnerability

SPIP versions prior to 4.4.10 contain a SQL injection vulnerability that allows authenticated low-privilege users to execute arbitrary SQL queries by manipulating union-based injection techniques. Attackers can exploit this SQL injection flaw combined with PHP tag processing to achieve remote code execution on the server.

How to fix this CVE

Upgrade SPIP to version 4.4.10 or later immediately to patch the SQL injection vulnerability that permits authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands and potentially achieve remote code execution. Review access logs for suspicious SQL patterns and verify that all administrative accounts use strong, unique passwords. If SPIP is not in use, consider removing it or restricting access via network-level controls.

sudo dnf update php

What an exploitation attempt looks like

Sample log line indicative of exploitation attempts:

POST/GET requests containing 'UNION SELECT' statements in URL parameters or POST body fields targeting SPIP query endpoints; pattern: (union|Union|UNION)\s+(select|Select|SELECT).*--(\s|\+|%20)

WAF mitigation (if patching is not yet possible)

Add this rule to your WAF to block exploitation attempts while you schedule the patch.

Implement ModSecurity or WAF rules to block SQL injection patterns: disable or sanitize UNION-based queries in user input parameters, enforce parameterized queries, and restrict database error messages from being returned to clients. Apply rate limiting to authentication endpoints to reduce brute-force attack surface.

How to check if you are affected

  1. Step 1: Verify SPIP version by checking the file /path/to/spip/inc/version.php or running 'grep -r "VERSION" /path/to/spip/inc/version.php' to confirm if running version < 4.4.10
  2. Step 2: Identify SPIP exposure by checking if the installation is accessible via web browser at http://localhost/spip or by examining the web server configuration files in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ or /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/
  3. Step 3: Search web server logs for union-based SQL injection patterns using 'grep -i "union.*select" /var/log/apache2/access.log /var/log/nginx/access.log' to detect exploitation attempts
  4. Step 4: After patching, verify the SPIP version again and restart the web server with 'sudo systemctl restart apache2' or 'sudo systemctl restart nginx', then confirm functionality by accessing the SPIP admin panel

FAQ

What is CVE-2026-22206?

CVE-2026-22206 is a SQL injection vulnerability in SPIP prior to 4.4.10 that allows authenticated low-privilege users to execute arbitrary SQL queries through union-based injection techniques, potentially leading to remote code execution when combined with PHP tag processing.

Is CVE-2026-22206 being actively exploited?

No, CVE-2026-22206 is not currently listed in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog and no public exploits have been disclosed, though remediation should not be delayed.

What versions of SPIP are affected by CVE-2026-22206?

All SPIP versions prior to 4.4.10 are vulnerable; version 4.4.10 and later contain the security patch.

How do I check if my server is vulnerable to CVE-2026-22206?

Run 'cat /path/to/spip/inc/version.php | grep VERSION' or access the SPIP administration panel and check the version number in the footer; if it shows a version below 4.4.10, your installation is vulnerable.

Does Defensia detect CVE-2026-22206?

Yes — Defensia's CVE advisory scanner compares installed package versions against the NVD database. If SPIP is installed on a monitored server, CVE-2026-22206 will appear in your dashboard with remediation steps.

This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject a PHP Object. The additional presence of a POP chain allows attackers to execute code remotely, and to delete arbitrary files.
CVE-2026-39337CVSS 10ChurchCRM is an open-source church management system. Prior to 7.1.0, critical pre-authentication remote code execution vulnerability in ChurchCRM's setup wizard allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary PHP code during the initial installation process, leading to complete server compromise. The "$dbPassword" variable is not sanitized. This vulnerability exists due to an incomplete fix for CVE-2025-62521. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.1.0.
CVE-2025-62521CVSS 10ChurchCRM is an open-source church management system. Prior to version 5.21.0, a pre-authentication remote code execution vulnerability in ChurchCRM's setup wizard allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary PHP code during the initial installation process, leading to complete server compromise. The vulnerability exists in `setup/routes/setup.php` where user input from the setup form is directly concatenated into a PHP configuration template without any validation or sanitization. Any parameter in the setup form can be used to inject PHP code that gets written to `Include/Config.php`, which is then executed on every page load. This is more severe than typical authenticated RCE vulnerabilities because it requires no credentials and affects the installation process that administrators must complete. Version 5.21.0 patches the issue.

CVE-2026-28289CVSS 10FreeScout is a free help desk and shared inbox built with PHP's Laravel framework. A patch bypass vulnerability for CVE-2026-27636 in FreeScout 1.8.206 and earlier allows any authenticated user with file upload permissions to achieve Remote Code Execution (RCE) on the server by uploading a malicious .htaccess file using a zero-width space character prefix to bypass the security check. The vulnerability exists in the sanitizeUploadedFileName() function in app/Http/Helper.php. The function contains a Time-of-Check to Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) flaw where the dot-prefix check occurs before sanitization removes invisible characters. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.8.207.
